Dossier is a communication app designed for your team to collaborate with both internal and external customers. While many Asana users use Dossier as a connector, to send emails to Asana and then work exclusively in Asana, many others also use the Dossier portal as a communication tool to receive and reply to emails and website chats.
Dossier also has a Chrome extension so you can pick emails and send them to Asana. See Create Asana Tasks from the Extension.
When using Dossier as a communication tool, you might not want to send all emails to Asana, but pick specific emails to be sent to Asana. For example, if you are a designer and receive design requests from another team member, you can pick that email and convert that into a design task in Asana in the project Design Tasks.
In this section, you will learn how to convert emails to Asana tasks in projects manually so that you can mostly manage all your communications in Dossier, but specific requests in Asana.
Turn off the Publish emails to Asana setting. Click Apps > Asana > Connect > Settings > Publish Emails to Asana. Deselect the check box Automatically publish emails to Asana tasks. Deselect the check box Automatically publish emails to Asana tasks.
Next, check that your emails have synced and are in the Dossier portal. If you don’t see any messages when you click Workspaces, click your name in the upper right corner of the portal, click X next to your email to disconnect, and connect to email again. This resets the email sync process, and Dossier syncs up to 30 days of emails.
From Workspaces, pick any message created from email that has synced. Hover over the ellipsis icon, and click Convert to Asana from the dropdown menu. See figure and steps below.
In the Convert to Asana Task dialog box, specify the project, task name, add tags and followers, and assign the Asana task to a person. Press Convert to create an Asana task when finished.
The figure below shows Asana with converted messages and workspace tags.
When your team members comment in the Asana task directly in Asana, Dossier syncs these replies to the conversation thread in Dossier. At the same time, Dossier also syncs replies from the original senders and recipients of the email (such as customers) from email to the same Dossier conversation thread.
